Nidra is a Sanskrit word that means “sleep.” Yoga nidra, or yogic sleep, is a style of guided meditation that is meant to deeply relax the practioner. The practioner falls in to what is called a “hypnogogic state.” This state, which is sometimes decribed as the threshold between wakefulness and sleep, or the threshold between the conscious and the sub conscious, is a very potent place. In this state we access the deep healing potentials that we all have within us.
Yoga nidra has shown to be a great resource for folks who are recovering from trauma. (To learn more about this exciting research, click here.)
